Description
1991 Taylorcraft F22 24,000My well loved Taylorcraft G-BWBI is now looking for a new owner to make way for a new aircraft.
LAA Permit to Fly exp. Sep 2025.
One of the last Taylorcraft ever made, this F22A is a modern take on a classic design. She was flown across the Atlantic along with her sister ship G-BVOX many years ago, as featured in Chet Peeks book the Taylorcraft story. I have many boxes of spare parts sourced from BVOX airframe after she met her end in a hedge a few years ago, which will go with BWBI as part of the sale.
Some information about G-BWBI, as not many people are familiar with the Taylorcraft series:
Being of Taylor/Piper origins, the design is in some ways similar to a Cub, and the familiar British Auster is of Taylorcraft descent.
She is a stable platform for cross country flying, and is a pleasure to fly. She trims quite happily hands off with no yoke or rudder input. Max weight is 1750lbs (794KG), and empty weight 1220lbs she is a capable machine. The baggage area behind the two sliding and folding seats is rated for 200lbs subject to CofG calculations.
Many fly-camping and touring trips have been enjoyed over the last few years around the U.K. in her, where the possibility of two normal adults, camping gear and five hours of fuel made for a great touring platform. 151Litres total fuel can be carried, across the two wing tanks. Short strip capable, no problem. Cabin heater. 3 stage flaps.
Motor is the familiar and reliable Lycoming O-235 L2C as found in some C152, Tomahawk, Citabria and Colt. She has around 950hrs, is running sweetly and hasn t missed a beat in my ownership. Oil temperature/pressure are in the green all year round and always starts first time. Regular oil changes and strainer cleaning has been carried out, with 8 recent REM37BY plugs and new HT leads fitted.
Recent maintenance items-
2023 maintenance in Oxford brought a new CF spinner, suspension bungees, 'dynafocal' engine mounts, full brake system overhaul, strut X-rays per the A.D and a thorough inspection, with several minor issues put right. She has recently had new tyres all round.
She has a FUNKE OLED 8.33kHz compliant radio with the additional audio loom so the audio-out from your tablet is passed to both headsets. There is an iPad mini universal mount in the centre of the panel with dual USB socket, and 3.5mm audio plug. Usual six pack of steam gauges. Mode A/C transponder with encoder (OE).
The Sensenich 72ck050 propellor is in fantastic condition.
Always hangared.
General condition all over I'd assess as 6-7/10
Any questions, by WhatsApp or SMS preferably.
Outperforms a cub, at less than half the price.
Thanks for looking.
